LONG OVERDUE

I see I’ve been a little lax posting. Will have to do something about that. I finished my Novel Writing II course and have registered for the Final Project. Just waiting to see who my instructor will be. We have to send a list in order of preference. I went through the instructors listed on the site and picked four.  I may not even get one of them. Guess I’ll find out eventually.

Have finished the first revision on my first draft of Generation Witch. Using that for my Final Project. Need to get book three in my Hodgins series started. I’m trying to base each book on an actual event, and I may have found one to use. Haven’t read through the newspaper reports yet, so it might not fit what I have in mind, but I can always use it later.

This Saturday (May 13) the Writers’ Community of York Region is holding the 2nd annual Bookshelf Bookfair. I’m one of the organizers as well as a seller.

Will try to post more often going forward.

Almost over

I’m part way through my 2nd last course in my Creative Writing program at the University of Toronto. Currently taking Novel Writing – Master Class. In May I’ll be registering for The Final Project. Wooooo

Whatever will I do with my time once that’s done? I’m sure I’ll find something to take.

Valentine’s Day

February 14 first became associated with romantic love thanks to Chaucer, but according to legend, when Saint Valentine was in prison, he healed the daughter of his jailer, and before he was executed, Saint Valentine sent the girl a letter signed “Your Valentine” as a farewell.

For some, February 14 is better known as the Saint Valentine’s Day Massacre. In 1929 seven men were gunned down by Al Capone’s gang in an attempt to rub out  “Bugs” Moran.

Now Valentine’s Day is a day for giving and receiving cards and chocolates and having romantic dinners. So what are you planning on doing today? Plan something romantic? Write a poem? Maybe visit 2122 North Clark Street, in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago’s North Side and see where Capone’s gang spread a little red?

GenreCon 2017

This past weekend I passed the time away at a ‘booth’ with three other authors in Guelph at the Holliday Inn.  It wasn’t the most crowded event I’ve been to, but I sold some books.

The entertainment was pretty good, even though it wasn’t planned by the event coordinators. Quite a few people came dressed as their favourite Sci-Fi or Anime character, and I’ll admit I had to keep asking my table-mates who they were. I recognized Darth and the Troopers, and Leia, and there were two apes from The Planet of the Apes. The rest ???? I think one might have been Rey Skywalker. Had fun with a Jawa, or maybe she had fun with us.  Also think a Tusken made an appearance.

Dr. Who was there, but I had to ask. Don’t watch it. I did recognize Cruella de Vil. Still trying to figure out who/what this is.

On a  high note, The Myth Hawkers Travelling Bookstore now carries my two books. Thank you Pat. 🙂

Working on the words

I’m trying to get the first draft finished for my New Adult paranormal book.I’m a little under 34,ooo words to far.

I managed just over 700 words Thursday night while I was waiting for the Sisters in Crime meeting to get started, and hit the library this afternoon to do some more. Got a total of 1748 words yesterday and today, which is well below my target. Oh well, at least  got something written.

Amazon Campaign

Decided to give the Amazon Marketing Service a try and see what happens. My campaign is set to run from the 5th to the 8th. I’ve set my budget at a whopping $5 per day. Wonder if it will be worth it?  LOL I’m running it on book 2. Fingers crossed someone bites. One per day will at least cover the budget. 😀

Mini Nano Progress

I’m falling a bit beind in my word count. A few thousand words behind. Oh well, at least I have something written. Just over 8,300 words – should be at almost 11,000. One of my buddies already has over 60k. He always has more than the NaNo requirement of 50k after only 2 weeks. His goal is generally to end up with a transcript that he can edit and publish. I doubt the short story I’m working on will be published anywhere, but ya never know. I may end up with several shorts that I can submit or put in an anthology at some point.

The story is around faeries and it’s kinda fun doing the reserach, both on the faeries and the area in Scotland where I’ve set it. More research to do. It’s never ending.
