Bertie here. Haven’t done a post in ages. Been enjoying the nice weather and doing day trips with my lovely wife.

I got the suggestions back from the editor and finally manager to get through everything last week. Now I have to enter it all in the computer and get the editor to do a quick look at the major re-writes.  I managed to find time to write a script for my trailer and can’t wait to see how it comes out. Also working on the book cover. Looks like everything is coming together for the book lauch in Oshawa on November 22.

I decided to include a photo of me in my younger days. Hope you like it.

I think I must have lost my mind last week. On Friday, something came over me and I signed up for NaNoWriMo. It stands for NAtional NOvel WRIting MOnth – The month is November and this little writing group has been around since 1999. The idea is to write 50,000 words between Nov 1st and 30th. You’ve got from one minute past midnight the early morning of the 1st right up to 11:59 pm on the 30th. That averages to just under 1700 words every day; 1,666.67 specifically. Every day you don’t write just ups the total for the remaining days. And it’s completely free by the way, but they do accept donations.

The end result doesn’t have to be a ready-to-publish novel. I doubt it is for anyone. For me, it will be the “puke on the page” method. I may not even bother with chapters. I think the best way for me to get anywhere near 50k words will be just to write and write and write. It will be hard not to edit as I go. Nothing will be organized, at least not very organized. I do have my story in mind, and I think I may have a brief outline somewhere.

So far I have six buddies, three of which are newbies like me. One I personally know, and one doesn’t live that far away. The other four buddies are outside Canada – Johannesburg, East Yorkshire, Pennsylvania and Colorado.

I’m looking forward to doing this, I think. Maybe I’m just dreaming and I’ll wake up soon.

Slow going with edits

I’ve been slowly working on the edits based on my editor’s suggestions.  I’m just over half way through.  In a few spots one or two sentences have become several paragraphs, which is a good thing as my book is only novella length, so added content is a good thing.  I seem to be guilty of “rushing” certain scenes.

With this weekend being a long weekend in Canada – Thanksgiving – I’ll have plenty of time to edit. Yeah, right. Also have to finish up two cemetery transcripts so I can hand them in for printing on Wednesday. And I have homework to do for my Professional Writing Certificate, specializing in Marketing and Public Relations. Week three started today. The first assignment is due Wednesday. Then there’s housework, and gardening (weather permiting). Also want to try to catch up on the 149 shows already on the DVR. Still have a couple of days of recordings to add to the list.  Got three whole days. Well, maybe 2-1/2 as I’ll be going to my mom’s for dinner on Monday.

I’m sure I’ll get something done, just not sure how much. imagesCA1L91Q7
